"Dreamweaver combines the simplicity and speed of a visual editor with the precision of a code view. You can develop your websites fast, and still also have the option of tweaking the code to meet your exact wishes.
Trained developers will appreciate the efficiency of getting basic tasks done automatically. Hobbyists and students will appreciate the help, and the opportunity to learn.
Since it's from Adobe, it works well and has plenty of support.
I use Dreamweaver to update my website and to develop my online course, but you can use it for all your coding tasks, from the most basic to the professional. It's easy enough for beginners to use, without the clunkiness of authoring programs designed to be foolproof.
I can't imagine a better choice." ~Rebecca Haden (Fayetteville, AR)
"100% Happy with Dreamweaver. Very easy to use (with a little help from a pro). Like the ease of designing my pages and uploading. I would highly recommend this program for any starting out or advancing in web page design." ~Mary Flansburg (Cedar Rapids, IA)
"Great product once you get to understand how everything fits together. I am a complete beginner in website design but managed to get my site published in about a week although I must admit I had to buy a guide to help. I would highly recommend getting Dreamweaver CS4: The missing Manual when buying Dreamweaver." ~Johannes Geyser (Lephalale, Limpopo, South Africa)

Not necessarily always deserving of bad reviews. March 25, 2010 T. K. Paul (Zanesville, Ohio USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I consider myself an intermediate user of video editing software, though my use of proper terminology is lacking. I own several software brands, including Video Explosion (an oldie), VideoStudio Pro (a favorite), Easy Media Creator, and Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I almost exclusively chose to use Elements 3 in the past because of the various types of video files I needed to work with. That, and it pretty much just `clicked' with me.
Using Elements 3, I've done four 30-minute highlight films for my son's HS football team, using hundreds of clips. I would often need to collect video from several people and would get their footage on DVDs, Mini DV tapes, and more often than not, straight from their camcorders. Elements 3 was the only software I owned that could import every file type and the only one that I could adjust to make all the footage look pretty much the same. These good experiences are exactly why I wanted to upgrade to Elements 8 despite the bad reviews. I will eventually purchase an HD camcorder and feel certain this software, and my computer (fingers crossed), will be able to process it.
First impressions: I love the interface, though the program's start-up is slow. It looks vastly different from Elements 3. I have a little experience with my son's Elements 6 and find it is similar in appearance to that version. I do like that you know exactly what to do from the opening screen, usually importing video or opening an old project. That was not the case with Elements 3.
Considering the bad reviews, I knew to check for updates first before doing anything else. (You have to choose to create and name a new project before `updates' is highlighted under the help menu.) The update is approximately 51 MB, so it is fairly significant. It took several minutes to download and install with a broadband connection. You have to close the program while the update is loading, but don't have to restart.
My Device Manager tells me that I'm using Radeon X1300 on my Dell XPS (Vista) so I don't have to worry about the warning for NVIDIA card users that appeared on the welcome screen when I restarted the program. The software doesn't automatically open to the work area on its own. You have to choose to open a new or old project on the welcome screen and again once you're in the program. (At least I do, not sure that applies to everyone.)
For my first attempt, I imported video files from a folder on my computer and chose to make an InstantMovie, which turned out quite nice. I'm a little bit of a control freak, however, so I don't know how often I'll use that feature. My daughter will probably enjoy it so she can post her camera movies quickly on facebook and YouTube. Working with the video without using InstantMovie was similar to what I've grown accustomed to with Elements 3. I manage to get very precise edits with Premiere Elements that I can't get in other programs for whatever reason. I also imported new video from my Canon MiniDV camcorder with no issues and added some interesting effects.
To see if I would experience crashes and blue screens, I burned a DVD with a 7-minute video. I did not experience any issues using a LiteOn burner with the latest updates installed. I found the title menu offerings overall to be a great improvement over Elements 3. I'm pretty sure I won't use the new organizing feature since I have my own folder system to keep video clips separated and organized.
To summarize, I believe this product is worthy of a try, especially if you're familiar with earlier versions of Elements. I have not encountered the problems mentioned in most of the other reviews. I made sure to upgrade my computer components before I installed the software (thanks to the reviews). I installed the Adobe upgrade to this program before I attempted to use it. So all I can say is that I must have the right combination of computer components and/or I upgraded in the right order. (Could there possibly be an issue with the order in which updates are installed? I wish I knew a definite answer to that.)
It worked well for me August 1, 2010 A. Jackson (East Coast USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wow, A lot of folks hammered this software. I disagree. I downloaded the trial and have had zero problems. It works fine and the videos came out fine. I am running it on a 3 year old HP with Dual AMD 2.8 gig processors and 3 gigs of ram. Elements 8 has been running flawlessly for the entire trial period. I recommend this product.
Good Solid Software As Always! December 4, 2009 Brian M. Edwards (Edinburg, Texas USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The best in it's class has got better with a few new features and it's ease to use.
I admit, I really never use all the features of Premier Elements, I use it to put together simple home movies and every year it gets easier and better. The user interface has a few changes and some novelty "cartoonish" characters can now be inserted into home movies. (I actually tried this feature out, but in the end left the characters out of my final cut)
I think most people will start off assembling footage into home movies like I do and then progress to more sophisticated features that are ready when you are. Of course I use titles and transitions etc but I don't make any real sophisticated productions. There are some very easy to use templates for complete beginners who will be amazed at their super looking movies with little effort.
The upload to youtube feature has finally been improved, I have uploaded a few short movies directly to youtube, then burned them to DVD afterwards.
I did not experience any of the problems that other reviewers has experienced. (Not sure why that is, but I would have been more critical if I had) I am using a 7 month old middle-of-the-road Gateway T Series laptop (with Windows 7) and have not had any crashes or freeze ups so far.
I have burned several movies to DVD (Approx 45 min long or less) without any problems. I recommend this software to anyone, it is just a cut above many of the others available and you won't be disappointed!
Excellent product for my needs March 26, 2010 Patrick Laughlin (Albuquerque) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I downloaded this program to process very old 8 mm & VHS home movies that had been digitized by a company & burned to a DVD in a rather jumbled manner. Premiere Elements has done a great job of allowing me to edit these movies & burn them to individual DVD's. Learning this program takes time & can be quite frustrating, and it helps if you have experience with other Adobe products. You do not need another product to import DVD files - it finds them automatically. The process of editing & then burning to DVD is time consuming and uses most of a large CPU's capacity - you will not be doing other tasks on your PC while this is happening, especially if you have part of the program called "auto analyzer" running. I recommend turning this off unless you think you will ever use it by: Organize>organizer - Then, edit>preferences>auto analyzer options, and deselect "analyze all media automatically". (I found this program running in the background even when Premier Elements was not open or running!). You can add music from your mp3 file collection (especially useful for old silent 8 mm movies). Overall, this program does what it is supposed to do (as opposed to Windows Live Movie Maker, which works well until you burn to DVD, and then only burns about a third of the movie.
Great video product September 5, 2010 Ken Treybig This is an upgrade for me to from a much earlier version of Premiere Elements. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of a high-end video editor, it does a great job for most people's needs.
